Umar Rashid at India Art Fair

5 February 2026

The inaugural recipient of the AMA Artist Award unveils a solo presentation at India Art Fair, open until 8 February in Delhi.

For India Art Fair 2026, Umar Rashid presents a series of new works developed specifically for the event. Building on his ongoing practice, Rashid’s pieces examine India’s colonial histories and their entanglements with global power, narrative, and forms of resistance.

These works are part of the Institutions section, newly reimagined to bring together 16 leading museums, foundations, and cultural organizations from India and around the world. The section highlights special projects that encourage cross-disciplinary dialogue across art, design, education, and philanthropy. Rashid’s contribution provides audiences in South Asia with a unique opportunity to engage with his thought-provoking and timely work in depth.

The Los Angeles-based artist will also participate in a talk on 6 February, titled Local Practices, Global Platforms: An AMA Artist Award Conversation. Part of India Art Fair’s dynamic Talks Programme, the panel brings together the inaugural AMA Artist Award winner, Dr. Deepanjana Klein (Director of Acquisitions and Development, Kiran Nadar Museum of Art), and gallerist Rajiv Menon. The conversation will be moderated by Dr. Vivian Li, Lupe Murchison Curator of Contemporary Art at the Dallas Museum of Art.

The panel will explore how artistic practices travel across regions, how meaning shifts for different audiences, and the role galleries and institutions play in building long-term cultural and market value through cross-regional engagement.

The talk is open to fair attendees, however, seating is limited and RSVP is required.

Come and see Umar Rashid’s presentation at India Art Fair in the Institutions Hall at the AMA Artist Award booth (M02) until 8 February.
